Scouts who show reverence by being faithful in their duty to God and giving special service can qualify for a religious emblem. These religious emblems are not scouting awards but presented to a Scout by a religious leader. Each faith has its own requirements for earning its emblem. Awards may be worn on the uniform above the left pocket on formal occasions. In addition, the Religious Emblem Square knot may be worn on the uniform over the left pocket by youth or adults who earned any of the religious awards. One or more miniature devices are affixed to the knot to indicate which level(s) of the award was earned. Religious Emblems may be earned for many different religions and denominations. This is an optional program, but we encourage scouts of all religions to earn the scouting religious award of their faith. Emblems are worked on outside of scouts and presented by your religious leader at an award ceremony in your church, synagogue, temple, mosque, or religious institution. The pack will award the square knot patch to the scout(s) at a special ceremony during a pack meeting. To get started, check with the Scout Shop to see if they carry the requirement workbook for your faith. If they do not, there is a list of the groups with which the Boy Scouts of America offers religious emblems for below. You will need to write or call the organization to get a workbook or a list of requirements for their award. Talk to your pastor or religious leader too - he or she may have information on how to go about starting the requirements.
