Ingredients
Individual bag of Doritos, Tortila Chips, or Fritos (1 per scout)
1/3 cup hamburger
1 packet of taco seasoning
1/3 cup refried beans
2 Tbsp shredded cheese
Salsa
1 diced tomato
1 diced onion
shredded lettuce (r bagged lettuce)
Instructions
1. Cook the hamburger in a skillet and add seasoning.
2. Heat beans.
3. Open bags of chips.
4. Spoon in all ingredients.
5. Shake and serve with fork.
Note - if meat is cooked at home this can be served as a cold lunch with no mess to clean up!
Banana Boats
For 1 boat:
Ingredients
1 Banana
12 small Marshmallows
Chocolate Chips (small handful)
Raisins (small handful)
Peanut Butter Chips (small handful)****Make sure to find out if child has peanut allergy before doing this!*****
Instructions
1. Peel back a long strip of peel on the inside curve - leaving attached to the banana.
2. Scoop out a small portion of the banana and fill with marshmallows and chips and raisins.
3. Replace the strip of peel and wrap banana in foil.
4. Place in the embers of the fire and bake for about 10-15 minutes.
Hamburger Dinner
Ingredients
12 small Potatoes
12 Carrots
1 large Onion
3 lbs. Hamburger
salt and pepper
Instructions
1. Slice potatoes.
2. Slice Carrots.
3. Dice Onion.
4. Make a patty of hamburger (1/4 lb.)
5. Place the ingredients side by side on a piece of aluminum foil.
6. Season and loosely close the foil (making a tent so as to allow air flow above the food) and place in the embers.
7. Cook 10-20 minutes.
Note - vegetables can be pre cut at home to minimze on time and cleanup - just store in zip-loc bags in the cooler!
Apple Delight
Ingredients
12 large apples
4 Tbsp. sugar
3/4 cup biscuit mix
Raisins
3 Tbsp cinnamon
Instructions for each apple
1. Core and chop apple into fairly large pieces. (peel if desired)
2. Mix 1 tsp. sugar , some raisins and pinch of cinnamonwith 1 Tbsp. dry biscuit mix. Stir together into apple.
3. Wrap in piece of greased aluminum foil (can use cooking spray) leaving sufficient space in the foil pouch for steam.
4. Place in the embers fo the fire and let cook for about 30-45 minutes.
Note - all chopping and cleaning of apples can be done at home - just store in bags or containers with lemon juiced water so they do not brown. Also all ingredients can be mixed in one container at same time and then portioned out individually to ease time/cleanup items!
Eggs in an Orange
makes 1 scout's eggs:
Ingredients
1 orange
2 eggs
spices
Instructions
1. Cut orange in half.
2. Scoop out and eat all orange contents (leaving peel intact!)
3. Place the peel on a sheet of foil.
4. Crack 1 egg into the orange half.
5. Sprinkle with spices.
6. Wrap foil over the orange.
7. Place directly in the hot coals.
8. Repeat for other half or orange.
9. Cook each orange for 3-5 minutes.
Barf in a bag
Ingredients
1 dozen eggs
Zip-loc brand plastic bags (normal size)(1 per scout)
1 bag shredded cheese
2 tomatoes (diced)
1 onion (diced)
1 green pepper (diced)
1/2 lb. deli ham
Sharpie marker
Large stock pot filled with water to boil
gas canister and setup to boil the water(Turkey fryer setup works well.)
Instructions for each apple
1. Crack and mix all eggs.
2. Have the scouts line up like an assembly line and work there way down the table adding whatever they like to their barf bags.
3. Seal the bag.
4. Place scouts name on the bag with a sharpie and place in boiling water for 10-15 minutes.
Note - You will need to have a setup with a burner and a pot of boiling water in order for this to work!
